Developer Gets NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Running in a Browser via WebGPU

A developer known as MAAN has shown NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering working inside a web browser through WebGPU, including on macOS, though performance remains far from real-time.

A developer operating under the handle MAAN has posted a demonstration of NVIDIA's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology executing entirely within a web browser, powered by the WebGPU API. According to a message shared on X, the implementation also functions on macOS. A live demo is currently available, and MAAN notes that visitors can test the setup with their own models.

The achievement stands out because NVIDIA offers no official path for running DLSS through WebGL or WebGPU. In conventional deployments, DLSS operates through the company's NGX interface or the Streamline SDK, a middleware layer positioned between a game and DirectX or Vulkan. That arrangement requires motion vectors, depth data, and the rendered frame to be handed over directly — requirements that do not translate neatly onto a browser's rendering pipeline. Which method MAAN employed to bridge this gap remains unknown.

The developer has so far declined to disclose technical specifics about the port. However, MAAN has confirmed that the source code will be published on GitHub in the near future, which should eventually clarify how the browser integration was achieved.

Performance figures suggest the project remains some distance from practical gaming use. According to VideoCardz, simply loading the Neural Rendering model consumed a second or two even on an RTX 4090. The demo reportedly runs on Apple Silicon as well, though not quickly. Those constraints likely rule out real-time gaming for the time being, although slower response times could still suit applications such as 3D model previews, where latency matters less.

For now, the work amounts to an early proof of concept rather than a production-ready capability. Even so, getting DLSS 5 operational entirely outside NVIDIA's own supported delivery paths is a neat technical trick worth watching.
