Axelera AI Ships Europa AIPU With Up to 629 TOPS at 45 W

Axelera's Europa AIPU debuts in chip, edge, and server form factors as the firm touts a $1.5 billion sales pipeline, 600-plus customers, and its first Titania chiplet for rack-scale systems.

Accelerator startup Axelera AI has moved its Europa AI Processing Unit from announcement to commercial availability, putting the architecture — first unveiled in October of last year — into production across three form factors: a bare chip for custom board integration, a half-height half-length PCIe card designated Edge 232p, and a full-height full-length PCIe board called Server 250p. Europa succeeds the company's Metis design and targets inference spanning agentic systems, vision-language models, generative AI, and computer vision.

At the silicon level, Europa integrates eight second-generation AI processing cores alongside 16 RISC-V vector processing cores, backed by 128 MB of on-chip L2 SRAM and 200 GB/s of DRAM bandwidth. Connectivity comes via a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, and an onboard video decoder is included. The chip sustains up to 629 TOPS within a 45 W thermal envelope, supporting INT4, INT8, and INT16 precision — a profile that speaks to power-conscious edge and server inference deployments alike.

The Edge 232p carries a single Europa die and delivers the full 629 TOPS, with Axelera citing 83.4 tokens per second on Qwen 30B. The card ships in validated configurations inside the Dell XE5 and the Supermicro 111AD. The Server 250p, meanwhile, combines four Europa AIPUs for more than 2,500 TOPS of aggregate throughput, reaching up to 4,205 tokens per second on Qwen3 8B — or as much as 32.1 tokens per second per watt.

Alongside the hardware rollout, Axelera says its commercial traction now includes a sales pipeline exceeding $1.5 billion and more than 600 customers across the globe. Engineering attention is also turning to Titania, the company's first chiplet, which targets rack-mount servers and supercomputers — a roadmap step that would carry the firm from edge-oriented cards and small server boards into higher-density compute territory.
