Arcjet Labs Inc., a developer security startup, has launched agent runtime security, a new offering built around a problem that widens as enterprises move from experimenting with AI agents to relying on them: once an agent is running in production, who is watching what it does?
The product tracks what artificial intelligence agents do after they are deployed into production systems. Rather than treating an agent as a finished artifact once it ships, Arcjet's approach treats the runtime as the security surface, monitoring agent behavior where decisions are actually executed. The company announced the offering on Thursday.
Visibility comes first. Security teams get a list of which agents are active in their environment, providing a live inventory of agentic software running alongside conventional workloads. Enumerating active agents is a precondition for governing them: a process that cannot be listed is difficult to secure.
Control is the second half. Each action an agent takes can be checked against policy before it goes through, moving enforcement from retrospective audit to the moment of execution. An operation that fails a policy check can therefore be stopped before it completes, rather than surfaced later in a log — a gating approach long familiar in API security, here applied to agent behavior.
The launch positions Arcjet in an emerging category: security tooling designed specifically for agentic AI in production, as distinct from safeguards applied at the model layer during development. For enterprises under pressure to let agents act autonomously — and for the security teams accountable for what those agents do — runtime visibility and policy enforcement address the gap between what an agent was built to do and what it actually does.
