Leaker Jaykihn claims Intel is readying an eight-P-core, eight-E-core "Raptor Lake Next" chip to replace the Core i5-14600K, with new LGA 1700 boards due early 2027.
Intel appears to be preparing a successor to the Core i5-14600K, and the reported candidate is a "Raptor Lake Next" processor configured with eight Performance cores and eight Efficient cores. The information comes from leaker Jaykihn in a post on X that VideoCardz picked up. If accurate, the new part would carry two more Performance cores than the current 14600K, matching the Core i7-14700K on P-core count — though not necessarily in cache or clocks.
Raptor Lake Next is the codename for Intel's plan to extend the LGA 1700 platform with fresh silicon built on the original Raptor Lake design rather than the newer Raptor Lake Refresh. The chips are expected to arrive in early 2027 alongside new LGA 1700 motherboards from Intel's board partners. Rather than replacing the 14th Gen stack outright, Intel appears to be using the lineup to fill gaps within it. The effort reportedly stretches further, with more 125W and 65W desktop SKUs in development alongside mobile variants.
DDR4 support is apparently part of the pitch, a potentially decisive argument for buyers looking to sidestep today's DDR5 pricing crisis. On the performance side, the additional P-cores should help in games that lean on core count. The leaker's account suggests the new chip could land ahead of the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, since the current 14600K already trades blows with Arrow Lake Refresh in several titles.
For now, the claim rests on a single source. Until Intel or its partners confirm anything, the exact configuration and timing should be treated as rumor.
